Masters of Luxury Travel

Not just a slogan. A record.
The ground layerFiled by countryEvery figure sourced and datedmastersofluxurytravel.com

Masters of Luxury Travel is the ground layer of the system — the measured record of the world the registers then classify.

The registers judge. This one measures. A collection admits a house or refuses it and publishes the ground; a register names who a house is wrong for. The ground layer does none of that. It counts, it cites, and it records the date it checked — which is why everything above it can afford to have an opinion.

What a country file holds

The unit of record here is not the house but the country, and below it the region, the destination and the gateway. Each file keeps two kinds of row and never mixes them: what the national statistics measure, and what the system itself holds on file. A count of houses on file is not a national total, and the file says so rather than letting a reader assume otherwise.

Every figure carries its year and its perimeter, and estimates are flagged as estimates. France, as filed in October 2026, records 534 hotels on file — 33 of them Palace — across 23,388 keys, alongside 201 destinations, 69 festivals and 13 regions, with the national market figures kept in their own row and the date of verification printed against the page.

Where the figures come from

This is the one layer of the system that stands on outside authority rather than its own editorial judgement, so it names the authority every time.

And where the record is incomplete, the incompleteness is published. A country file carries its own list of what has not been pulled yet — a monthly series not yet taken, a perimeter not yet reconciled. An unfilled field is a finding, not a blank, and it is never closed with an estimate dressed as a fact.

What stands on it

Every classifier in the system begins here, because none of them generate this kind of fact themselves.

The history of the houses is kept elsewhere: that is the work of The Luxury Hospitality Library, which holds the codes and the record of who built what. The ground layer holds the territory those houses stand in.

The registers judge. The ground layer measures — and every claim on it is checkable.
